Every Fourth of July, our neighborhood becomes a war zone of pyrotechnic celebration. Natually, we climb up on our roof to enjoy this absolutely illegal display of color and noise.
One year we watched an LAPD helicopter fly over the block just down the street where the explosive exhibition was especially exuberant. The entire neighborhood immediately went dark and the chopper flew away.
A few minutes later, this unauthorized nighttime spectacle resumed and when the police chopper returned, they launched their fireworks at the helicopter!
Not sure what happened after that because we decided it was time to get off the roof.
